If the problem that you are experiencing is like a slur, I seem to recall Simon addressing this, either in Level 1 or on a YouTube video. He recommended to lift the finger but not completely, immediately. Let the finger remain in contact briefly to dampen the string, then remove it. The technique works, but not if you are playing fast.
