I will try to make it as well. 8 o’clock Saturday evening here in Rome.
Following the advise I have started to try to prepare the right hand. I am also using simpler chords in the left hand. Reviewing the video I note that I am not consistent in my right hand preparation, in particular not in the Blue waves where I try to introduce some shift of color.
Anyway, this is where I…[Read more]
I also find the chord shift in Giuliani number 32 difficult and I am now following Daves advise to focus on the right hand arepeggio by using simpler chords.
However, you have a nice flow and tone in particular in the Blue Waves.
Keep up the good work!
Dave, thanks for the comments.
What I get from our advice is that I should focus on the right hand in this challenge. Fair enough. I have started using simpler chords like Em and Am as you suggest. I also make an effort in right hand preparation. For the next upload I maintain the simpler chords.
You sound nice.
I agree with Lynda, try to move the left hand thumb back and more toeards the second fret. It should help you in reaching all over the wider fretboard.

A really nice photo story in the Guardian about a Luthier in Surrey (UK).
I think your recording is nice and it sounds well in my headphones.
I also struggle to play when I record myself. I have started to leave the video recording on for long periods of time, basically, from when I start the practice session of a piece until I end it. At the end, I will then review and cut out the piece I would upload if…[Read more]
You might want to look into WebEx as well. It is a CISCO product and basically the default corporate option for any conference call involving more than two participants. It might be significantly more expensive though.
Facetime is indeed Apple only and would not work in an environment where you also have windows or linux users.
My second upload, some thoughts so far.
I worked on this for about an hour basically recording myself all the time. During the session I felt somewhat frustrated, in particular with the Giuliani study number 32 and felt never happy with myself. Then, when reviewing and editing this video, I see that I am too critical of myself.…[Read more]
Thanks for the very nice words Deb.
I have started to see the piece as one big crescendo from start to end. Much like a take on the Bolero of Ravels. Crescendos would fit in this view but I’m not sure about decrescendos.
Anyway, thanks for the feed-back.
Study one, revisited
Can you do a lack of progress update in your progress journal?
My July goals eventually were to optimistic. The vacation situation, contrarily to what I thought, was less allowing for guitar practice. In particular, it was way to noisy for the classical guitar to be recorded. Consequently, I practiced but did…[Read more]
Better late than never. Slow Internets, life and travel somehow interrupted my quest.
Here are my submissions, summing up the progress so far.
Blue waves: this is a piece I like and have played for some time. My local teacher jams over it for the pleasure of the little audience there is, cats and…[Read more]
Thanks for the info, I will participate.
Even if I am still here at grade one, not yet submitted anything, would you mind if I choose the grade 4 Tarrega study in E minor? I have played it for many years.
I usually put the metronome (or rather the iPhone app from another on-line guitar site played back through a bluetooth speaker) on sub-divisions but I felt that this would be a bit cheating in this context. Therefore, I maintained it on 60 for the quater notes for the challenge. Btw, it would be “en – och – två – och – tre – och -…[Read more]
Checking Progress – Routine number 1
End of June – time to check in and check where I am!
This is what I said more or less a month ago:
Medium term – before end of June
– Complete the Facebook challenge by reflecting and working on received comments and uploading two more recordings
– Start and complete the Grade 1 Unit 1 course
Back home, back in routine. Slowly, I’m getting through Unit 1 working on all the homework at the same time as I fiddle with some simple Beatles coached by my local teacher.
To set a milestone, here is a baseline recording of Study 1. Not much rehearsal, this is how it goes on the fifth try.
For next week: continue o…[Read more]
