I usually put the metronome (or rather the iPhone app from another on-line guitar site played back through a bluetooth speaker) on sub-divisions but I felt that this would be a bit cheating in this context. Therefore, I maintained it on 60 for the quater notes for the challenge. Btw, it would be “en – och – två – och – tre – och -…[Read more]
Checking Progress – Routine number 1
End of June – time to check in and check where I am!
This is what I said more or less a month ago:
Medium term – before end of June
– Complete the Facebook challenge by reflecting and working on received comments and uploading two more recordings
– Start and complete the Grade 1 Unit 1 course
Back home, back in routine. Slowly, I’m getting through Unit 1 working on all the homework at the same time as I fiddle with some simple Beatles coached by my local teacher.
To set a milestone, here is a baseline recording of Study 1. Not much rehearsal, this is how it goes on the fifth try.
For next week: continue o…[Read more]
After another week out on my feet, this time to my hometown of Stockholm, where the guitar was left at home I’m now touching strings again. Short visits to guitar shops and listening to a nice “Tears in Heaven” by a friend was my main and only reminder of the instrument. So, strings are strange and hard on gentle fingertips. Two o…[Read more]

A week at home where I tried to work on the advice from Simon. Use your thumb, bring out the melody in the bass line. Did I succeed? I’ll let you decide, follow the link above.
For next week I am again on my feet visiting Stockholm, family and friends. There won’t be much time for guitar practice but I hope to get by [Read more]
I am sorry to hear about your dad and you have all my sympathy for the difficulties you face. As someone else in this thread said, be easy on yourself and most of all do not force or overextend yourself. In particular, playing the guitar should be fun, take the necessary rests if needed to find the pleasure again.
I enjoyed your Simple Mambo and…[Read more]
Time for an update.
I have been away on business so the guitar has mostly been left alone at home. Not much practice done.
However, I had the chance to get to the London Guitar Studio on Duke Street in London. I had a really nice chat with the shop manager who spoke about the stars he knows; Paco de Lucia (he only strums when he practices),…[Read more]
Recording, indeed stressful. So, here is my status on Allegro by Giuliani of today after several iterations.
For next week, as I am traveling for work to London, the goals are simply to practice when I can and have the opportunity. A visit to The London Guitar Studio and some time to reflect on where I am in my guitar journey.
I would accept that my stretch goal above is not really SMART. It is neither specific not measurable. However, this is the goal I have to address my weaknesses and to further develop my strengths.
My main current weakness, apart from all the obvious technical challenges on the instrument itself, is my lack of confidence. It shows…[Read more]

Time to set some goals, or “objectives” as the management speak goes hereabout. SMART, they are supposed to be. I’ll follow the advise from Simon and set them in the four different time scales.
Short term – within a week
– Practice every day for at least 30 minutes
– Re-visit the fundamentals at each practice se…[Read more]
I am a Swede living in Italy due to work and love since 1993. I re-started my guitar journey some years ago after mostly enjoying the instrument as a decoration on the wall of my bedroom.
I joined the Academy just today following the really nice Facebook challenges organised by Simon. I hope this experience will continue here at the…[Read more]
