Thanks John! I think I would be considered an amateur luthier. I make custom guitars when I have an order and when I don’t I make them to sell, but it is not my source of support. Lutherie is a difficult profession to earn a living (kind of like playing the guitar). I’m more interested in putting together a magnificent sounding instrument built…[Read more]
Here is a picture of my latest guitar build with her new owner, Roger.
What is cool about this is that Roger had spent some time in Africa in his youth on a mission trip. While there he was able to acquire some African Ebony that I was able to use to make the guitar bridge and the head plate.
The top is Western Red Cedar braced with…[Read more]
I too have heard great things about Pavan’s guitars. The last time I was shopping for a guitar I was trying to decide between a Pavan or a Picado. I ended up ordering a Picado Model 60. Here is the website:
They are out of Barcelona and the price point is similar to Pavan. The C12 should be…[Read more]
Update video of week 1 of the technical challenge. This is the excerpt from Bach’s Bourree.

Adagio – Albinoni
Caprico and Tango – Albeniz
Spanish Folk…[Read more]
My first guitar was a starter that I purchased on Amazon. It is a LaPatrie student model. I was very disappointed, but what can I expect for $300. I play left handed so I can’t walk into a guitar shop and play a guitar to see how I like it. My options are very limited. My second guitar I ordered from a luthier by the name of Antonio…[Read more]
This is my first graded submission. I have been with CGCA for only a few months and my experience has been tremendous! I have learned so much and my playing in such a short time has improved greatly.
Some of the challenges I have encountered are as follows:
1. Overcoming lazy playing – I have a tendency to pay attention to the details in the m…[Read more]
I think it is a good decision as well. In 15 minutes, I can get enough feed back to give me a whole week of stuff to work on. I even ran into a situation where I wanted to participate in a coaching call and could not schedule a time slot. All available slots were filled, many with multiple coaching calls selected.
