I support 2112 as a good desert island CD! Great interview and I’m looking forward to more. I love hearing about our members’ lives, and Mark has a lot going on. I’m sure he’ll outlive his job and get more videos on the forum for us!
Thank you so much, Roger, for envisioning and breathing life into this new facet of the Academy. I tend to be a very introverted, private person. To hear other members openly discuss their personal successes and challenges in learning the classical guitar is of real value to me. I hope the member’s podcasts thrive and become a fixture in the Academy.
Roger and Mark, thank you so much for the great podcast and discussion!
Your member interviews are so reminiscent of the CGC Summer School and the wonderful conversations we all shared during the various meals. You’ve done a spectacular job of capturing the magic of that experience – our shared joys and challenges, the unique perspective we each bring to the instrument, and most importantly, the laughter and camaraderie that brought us all closer together. Bravo for bringing this to fruition and I look forward to hearing more in the future.
Another fine interview with another interesting member. I already thought we had a lot in common, Mark, and hearing this confirms that suspicion. (My condolences!)
I think the non-classical desert island disc you meant was “Electric Ladyland,” right? Just kidding… Not familiar with Southside Johnny but I guess I will have to check it out. I will say that 2112 is an interesting choice for the classical guitar crowd as it’s more or a less a rock opera in which the hero finds a guitar and champions a musical past.
Glad you’ll be back on the nylons soon, Mark. Have you ever played a Yamaha silent nylon string guitar? It may be useful to you as it can be amplified directly – including headphones. I have one and find it pretty comparable in playability to a “real” classical guitar.
Thanks Mark and Roger for putting this together and sharing with us.

Been having fun this evening listening to these podcasts. Mark I could so relate to your comments about the steel string chord melody and just playing the tune. When I started classical it was a “rude awakening” – no fakin’ it! LOL!! Thanks for taking the time Roger and Mark – great interview!
Great interview Mark and Roger- I just wish I could play be ear Mark!
Thanks, Julie!
I wish that I didn’t have to resort to playing by ear, but instead really knew the fretboard better ;-]
Hi Roger, It was such a pleasure to listen to you and Mark chatting. Thank you for a great episode of the members’ podcast.
Roger and Mark, just a joy to start my day with a cup of coffee and your conversation.
Thanks, John!
Also, a HUGE thank you to Roger–his masterful editing almost makes me sound human.
Looking forward to more interviews,
Mark

Glad you enjoyed it, Robert. You’re right about Summer School..that really was a lot of fun!
Hope you’e doing well,
Mark
Great chat Mark and Roger! It is a real pleasure to hear about Mark’s daily life, family, and balancing the study of the guitar!
Thanks for listening, Drew! It’s pretty clear I could use a bit of your west coast equanimity to keep all of the balls safely in the air ;-]

Nels,
Now you really got me feeling inadequate, if you’re progressing at you pace with a life like mine! I’d wager you’ve got longer to retirement as well (which is to say that EL must have made its impression on you in utero)

I suppose if I could take a couple more discs with me, I’d take one I just re-received today

and, of course, some Jimi (though I’m partial to the live stuff)

All the best,

Donna,
Although the rigor of classical guitar often makes me crazy, I suppose it’s what I really want ;-0
Take care,
Mark
Glad that you enjoyed it, Judy!
I’ll have to listen again, as I recall the challenges, but can’t really recall any successes ;-]
Thanks,
Mark
