Congratulations on the performance and the not dying part, too, Michael.
It only gets easier after the first go. And by comparison to the stage, the “camera jitters” become much less of a thing.
Very nice performance, too.
Thanks for sharing this!

I have family conflicts this Sunday even though I’m dying to try out Cancion de Lladre or Villa-Lobos Prelude 4. Hopefully next time!
Will try to catch the tail end when I return from dropping off my parents at the airport.
So will Dave or Niki prepare an evaluation video for your submission? And would you please be so kind as to share it in the forum? P.S. – you might want to review the submission requirements – you’re only allowed one grade per period and need to submit a practice routine and self-assessment, too. 🤪
Seriously, I would like to see a r…[Read more]
I would add that it’s almost always fine to play the same pieces at multiple venues or even multiple performances at the same venue. Concert performers (professional) seem to do this regularly. When you are practicing a piece you may have heard it hundreds of times, but even if you are playing for the same audience at the s…[Read more]
Ok – post exam update time… Going to log my “marching orders” while still fresh.
First off – here was my exam submission. Definitely not perfect – but pretty representative of my current capabilities and a decent “wrap up” of the recording process documented in my recent posts
As promised, here is Dave’s review of my submission. Per usual, it’s rich with both encouragement and helpful advice around next steps for continued improvement and was a joy to receive.
Interesting takeaway – I noticed the slapping in the Brouwer – and it was definitely an unintended mistake. But I wound up…[Read more]
I finally finished watching this magnificent submission today and feel thoroughly unworthy to comment. On the other hand – to fail to acknowledge the achievement here would be insulting, so here goes…
Magdalena – what a lovely and inspiring performance. Having watched you work these pieces so diligently during performance seminars with…[Read more]

Well done Ghizelaine!
Your performances were nice and steady and your right hand seemed particularly stable.
What a magnificent performance! Thank you for blazing the trail and providing a lofty “gold standard” for grade seven. I was thoroughly impressed with all your repertoire performances. The Allemande and Villa-Lobos prelude are particular favorites of mine and your renditions were exquisite. I like the Walton Bagatelles also and rea…[Read more]
Magnificent start, Glenn! I think Sor is an underrated composer (outside the guitar world) and had a huge influence on the development of the modern guitar and its repertoire. I’m really looking forward to another excellent month of COTM.
So glad to see your submission. The only thing I found to be a let down in your performance was the hiiiiideous shirt and window banner… let me know where I can send you some green replacements… 🏒🤪
Nicely played with great attention to detail on all three pieces. I especially liked the dynamics at the end of the Sor. And…[Read more]
Nice work here. I can kind of “hear you hearing the melodies” as you are playing and I think that’s an important building block.
Keep up the good work and congratulations on taking the plunge and getting this submission together!
Nice job on this submission! I agree with Rocio that the dynamics on the Carulli were especially well done.
And hats off to you both for being a supportive guitar mom and for making that the starting point for your own guitar journey.
Thomas and Wade,
Thanks for the listen and your kind words. It’s always a pleasure to hear from my fellow guitarists.
Thomas – are you by any chance referring to my shameless reuse of material from previous self assessments? 😆
I’m a database engineer by trade and “reuse of working code” is borderline compulsory for me. Plus it speaks to the…[Read more]
