Hey, I appreciate the discussion about slow practice and fluidity. I too have found Petzold slow going. I can play it through slowly without tension but any speed and I am tight. I will practice your PLAY 2 3 Touch technique a little each day. Thanks for the tip.
Hey Robert, that makes good sense. I especially like the dessert idea. I often think I’m going to do it but don’t. I’m going to add that to my practice set as a line item so that if I avoid it I do so knowingly. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you Joseph. I have a lot to learn before I can play Largo as I hear it but your comments encourage me.

Thanks for the 3 exercise tips Donna. I’m going to practice them regularly starting today!
Thanks Robert, you are kind. I look forward to your PJ posts. I know what you mean about wanting to keep going longer when you are into it. It is difficult to walk away sometimes when I’m getting into it. As you have, I realized that the shorter sessions are good for me in four ways:
1) Shorter and more concentrated focus
2) Easier…[Read more]
Thank you Donna. Oh geez, you are right about the height above the fret board of my fingers. You know I’ve drilled that for a month and could not understand why I can hit it regularly then not be able to do it at all. I should’ve posted a month ago so I could learn this sooner. I’ll watch the coaching call tonight.

Thanks Helen. I got interested in the journal after reading others and seeing how it was helpful to them. I’m glad to be helpful in return. I look forward to seeing your progress. I see that you are active in the G4 Study group. I intend to participate there as well. However there is only so many hours in day!
I’m (finally) going to start my progress journal and commit to keeping it up. I’ve been keeping a private journal & log since I started at CGC but I’ve been reluctant to take the plunge into the journal. Well, the time has come.
I practice almost everyday for an hour or more. After the grade 3 submission I changed how I practiced…[Read more]
Looks and sounds good to me Jeff. As you mentioned, the contrary motion was not apparent. I’d like to learn more about contrary motion however. I’ve been trying to reach a position with my left hand in a timely manner and accurately and it has been a challenge. I might be over it but contrary motion sounds like an interesting approach. If you…[Read more]

Just to tune in here, I’ve been working on the staccato scale still but with the proper technique of stopping the string with the alternating finger then plucking with it. It’s coming along …
That’s great progress when increasing speed gets easier. I think that is why Simon does not emphasize speed when learning a piece. He says it will come. For me, once I’m really certain about what I’m currently doing and what is coming next, then the speed increases (gradually) naturally.
