Thanks Immanuel and Jeff for your comments. It’s an area of tech that I’m completely unfamiliar with (my last foray into looking into mics was before getting the H2 Zoom several years ago), so there’s a bit of research for me to do. I really like the idea of giving the coaches the best possible opportunity to hear what I’m attempting.
I also like…[Read more]
John, I agree with you. I think the tutors do an amazing job of interpreting what they’re hearing and filling in the gaps, so to speak. It can’t be at all easy.
Brian, thank you for the advice. I’ll certainly try bringing the mic closer to me. Although it is an omnidirectional one, I think there’s a setting for choosing to make it…[Read more]
Hello out there!
I’d love to know if there’s anything I can do my end to improve the quality of the live sound picked up and transmitted from my guitar during coaching call sessions.
While people’s voices seem to travel reasonably well without too much distortion as they pass over the internet, the guitar doesn’t seem to translate so well –…[Read more]
In 6th position, you play the same A – i.e. on 7th fret, 4th string – as used in 4th position, but with your second finger rather than your fourth.
In 9th position, you play the A on the 12th fret, 5th string with your fourth finger.
You’ll notice that in the video of this, Simon plays G# throughout rather than G, although only F# and C# are m…[Read more]

I won’t be around on Sunday, but look forward to seeing what these Members’ Challenges are all about on the replay.
Mollie replied to the topic how to maintain multiple repertoire pieces for performance in the forum Repertoire Questions 5 months, 3 weeks ago
I tend to maintain only the pieces that I really, really, love. Even if I’ve already spent a good deal of time on a piece, if I come to realise that it’s simply not going to resonate with me long-term, I’ll tend to let it go. This allows me to spend time honing only the ones I really care about; and caring about them is a great motivator for impro…[Read more]
Aaah! I’ve just noticed a button on the calendar (“Events in”) that allows you choose all months in the year (calendar app must have been updated since Simon did the video about it). So that’s good and I’ve answered my own question. However, there’s nothing listed at all beyond last weekend, so I wonder if I’m still missing something. Anyway, not to worry!
New member here. A quick query about the Calendar. Simon’s video describing how it works indicates that it shows the current month, the following month and the previous month. But in my browsers, I’m only able to access the current month and the previous month – June doesn’t appear. Am I missing something? (I use Firefox and Chrome on a Mac). Thanks!
Thanks for the welcomes, Ian and JohnH!
The ‘7 easy guitar solos’ were written by Patrick Benham and published in the mid-80s (still available). I was a complete beginner – didn’t know one string or fret from another – but they really did the trick for me. They were my first foray into it all, and got me thoroughly hooked.
The Facebook group i…[Read more]
I’ve so enjoyed being part of the Facebook group that I decided to join fully.
I took up CG completely by accident! I decided I wanted to learn how to play guitar chords, so bought a secondhand guitar online.
However, not only did I not realise I’d bought a nylon-strung classical guitar (being then rather clueless about guitar types – I just…[Read more]
