Along with Sanja Plohl joining us for some coaching calls over the next month we will also be welcoming James Erickson. James is a local New Yorker and we met at the Long Island Guitar Festival as he is on the team of people who run the festival each Spring.
I think James will make an excellent contribution to the coaching calls…[Read more]
In September I was alongside the many dedicated musicians who submitted grade exams here at the Academy as I embarked on a recording project that I had been looking to do for quite some time.
The project is to record the entire contents of the Graded Repertoire for Classical Guitar book so that Academy members could have a reference for each…[Read more]
Each submission period we notice a few common issues that crop up. In order to address one of these issues directly I have made a video that focuses specifically on a rhythmic issue that both Dave and I noticed this time around.
I will have to find a logical place for this video in the Academy but for now I will put it in the…[Read more]
Just another quick update: We have passed the halfway mark now with the exams (43 out of 85 responses finished)
We are on track for our self-imposed deadline of October 21st.
Thanks for your patience and all the great work!
I am happy to announce that Sanja Plohl will be joining CGC for coaching calls over the next month. Sanja is an outstanding musician who has an impressive list of professional accomplishments. We will have a more formal introduction on the blog in due course.

I have just added the first movement of the Marcello concerto to the CGC blog, which completes the performance by Janet, Jacques, and the CGC orchestra.
Here it is!
We are up to the low 20’s out of 85 with exam responses and I should get up closer to 30 by the end of the day. So if you submitted by September 10 you should have your response by today or tomorrow.
Overall I am overjoyed at the commitment and focus with which all of these grade exams have been completed. Such a credit to the…[Read more]
Happy Monday Musicians,
At this years Summer School we had a very special project collaboration between Janet Agostino, Jacques Lee Wood and our “pop up” guitar orchestra (pop up because they only had five days to get this performance together!)
Here is the first video of the Marcello Concerto in D
As we are getting closer to confirming the dates of the 2020 Summer School, I thought it would be a wonderful time to wax nostalgic and enjoy the ensemble performances from 2019!
Thank you so much for your feedback, Dawn. I was just chatting to Roger yesterday about masterclasses as I am not sure how much they are needed or wanted by the members. So, your kind words of appreciation are very much… appreciated!

Welcome! Thank you for sharing a little of your story, you will find the supportive community you have been looking for here at CGC.
Thank you for saying hello and I look forward to helping you on you journey. We have another wonderful member in Tokyo, Yoko, so perhaps one day we can have our first Tokyo Corner meetup!

Regarding Fanfare Magazine: When I made my first recording around nine years ago, I promptly received a letter in the mail from Fanfare Magazine asking to do a review. I was surprised at the request because I had not announced it anywhere. It was an odd request that was not clear, the kind of not clear that makes you re-read the letter a few…[Read more]
Welcome to the Academy! I would check out the orientation course first as it will help you navigate the site. If you are wondering why there is a deluge of performance posts this month it is because we have our Fall exams.
Look forward to hearing more from you.
