my very 1st classical guitar that i bought over 30yrs ago was also a takamine c128. i now have 2 others but i still play the 128 almost daily. in the hands of a true musician it can sound very nice (i know this because my teacher is one & he can make it sing). after yrs of trial & error i have found that d’addario strings sound the best…[Read more]
that is really one handsome guitar! congrats & happy playing!
in the side by side comparisons, i was wondering if any effects have been added (ie: reverb, etc) or are these “naked” recordings”. if “naked” could you fill us in on your recording setup please? if they are naked recordings with average equipment…. super impressed!! of course…[Read more]
i’ve been using a “surfacepro” tablet for 3yrs here…never a problem with this site (or any site).
this summer i’ve also started using “mobilesheets pro” to edit & display music & like roger, simon & others here, i’ve started using a footpedal to turn pages.
i use a “wand” to scan music from bound books with good success but will look…[Read more]
yeah, the warping is the issues i’ve had with any android app i’ve used…latest being “camscan”. the flatbed scanner leaves black shadows (as you prob know) on the book binding side. the “wand” leaves some shadowing too but i’m able to crop it. most of my music is not in the public domain or are exercises from yates or masters & i want it…[Read more]
i also use mobilesheets…a very robust app for what i need.
have you considered a page turner foot pedal? i use pageflips butterfly ($90 amazon) & it works great! i keep my surface-pro in landscape & use mobilesheets set up for the pedal to scroll 1/2 pages. the scrolling was a bit disorienting at first.
just a thought should you find yourself…[Read more]
I’m pretty sure that only ebony from Madagascar (article II) is on the CITES list. (my dog is from Madagascar but she is currently not on CITES;)) But wandoo seems like an interesting choice regardless.
I was wondering what wood is used for the armrest? I really like his idea of incorporating it into the build and not as an “add-on” after the…[Read more]
Franco replied to the topic Alhambra 4P – anyone got one & are you happy with it? in the forum Beginner Corner 1 year ago
one of my guitars is a 4p and it has a warm, rich, spanish sound. lots of timber & definitely what one would expect from a cedar top. i bought it 7yrs ago & changed out the nut & saddle to bone and had an armrest made for it by kris barnett. i can play decent enough to bring out a real pleasing sound. when my teacher plays it i think that if i…[Read more]
Hi and welcome! Hope that you enjoy your stay!
A greg byers and dake traphagen?? lucky you!
A note on 6 degrees of seperation…
my cg instructor met you (actually sat next to you) at a pepe romero event in 2003(4?). he was using one of pepe’s older guitars and you offered to let him play your byers and you played his romero (pepe later…[Read more]
has it been mentioned what their roles will be? frequent commentators? additional help for “office hours”? more help for the monthly video sessions? 1 on 1 sessions (additional fees to apply)? is the aim to become a true online academy with more structure? trying to figure out how/if there will be a difference.
i was wondering if you could share your musical background with us. how old were you when you 1st started playing guitar, what got you interested in classical guitar, how many years have you been playing classical guitar, are you university trained…you know…the usual stuff. oh…& how did you and simon meet & how did you get…[Read more]
i’ve resigned myself to just reading posts these last few months but am always compelled to offer my praise after hearing you perform.
as for “not being perfect”…buzzes are part of the performance & totally acceptable imo (recordings not so much). but i heard no real technical or timing issues. to my critical ear it was a wonderful performance…[Read more]
the brilliant brazilian guitarist! obviously the man can play the strings right off of the guitar. could you imagine this piece could even be played on guitar?
however… the re-do’s drove me a bit nuts. also it seems to me the audio was stripped out to add a bit of reverb & then reinserted. i prefer the raw sound of the guitars voice.
pepe is and has been one of the greatest classical guitar players in the world for more years than simon has been alive. i think when someone rises to that stature, who is seriously going to challenge!? certainly not simon… way too smart for that
hmmm… slamming a world renown & 2011 “conductor of the year” by “musical america” doesn’t show good form. this wonderful man passed away 1yr after this performance. was he as charismatic as he was in his younger years? nope… was segovia the great player he once was when i saw him at 80+yrs old? nope… can’t take away the greatness of…[Read more]
HERE is a youtube of the fabulous pepe romero performing the “concierto de aranjuez” along with the “Danmarks Radio Symfoni Orkestret” & the late Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos.
this is one of my favorite youtubes to watch on a sunday morning. pepe is fantastic! his right hand technique is mesmerizing . abel carlevaro, in his methodology states…[Read more]
